Apart from using technical drawings, images and gifs, I have also created animation videos. These help in visualizing the actual product at a different level as it gives an insight into the structure and construction of the model. Visual aid is always very important in any art project and the following videos will give life to my sit + store project.
Now that I have come to the realization part of the project, I have created a digital model to make understanding and visualizing my furniture design easier.
Before I started thinking about material application, I constructed the model with simple components which included both additive and subtractive elements. The modelling of the furniture was easy and quick as it includes repetitive units and a lot of stacking application.
This collage shows a perspective view of the model as well as the front and back. I also created a gif to aid with comparing both front and back of the model with ease.
The materials, as mentioned earlier, are wood, fabric and jute. All these are natural materials that provide a homely vibe while incorporating the modernistic simplicity of contemporary design.
As seen in the technical drawings, the furniture design also includes a swinging bench with enough room to swing without disruptance from surrounding elements.
Here is a collage of the model including shadow and material applications from different perspectives.
Now that I have completed the creative phase of the designing stage, I have a clear idea of how I want to construct my sit+ store furniture unit.
This design will be a readers’ heaven! With spaces to accommodate any seating posture you can imagine, this furniture will also be able to store all those book collections that we have stuffed in one or the other corner of the house!
This wall-covering unit also works as an extremely contemporary and symmetrical piece of art which can even be used decoratively in any space. The technical drawings are easy and clear to understand and does not require much construction hassle either.
The furniture includes single cubes and cuboids which are arranged in a repetitive pattern to create a single furniture unit. To add an interesting touch to the unit, I have added a swinging bench which is always appealing to every body! At a time, the furniture can seat up to 4 people comfortably. The drawings are straight forward and easy to understand with dashed lines to show hidden objects. As a designer, I always aim to have clear and understandable drawings with enough relevant information to move the project forward into the construction stage. The drawings need to be accurate as these will be the foundation for the 3D models in the next step.
Note: All these drawings are done at a scale of 1:20. All measurements are according to the metric system of units. The above dimensions are in millimetres.
